The things we do for friends

Today’s post is presented as less of a ZOMG FUG! but just .. more as a cautionary tale and pointing to those times that all you can say is “Wow”.    You all know how much I love Amigurumi – and I ‘m fairly broadminded  but wooooeeeee……

Question: how many of us hookers (and I guess this applies to you-pointy-stick-using weirdos too) have been approached by friends and relatives, asking for a speeshul item to be made?

Baby items probably lead the charge, with little jackets and snuggly rugs – easy to do.   Other items such wedding ring pillows pose no problems though heaven forbid you use the wrong shade of pink for the ribbons, and the thank you afghan for Grandmother’s nursing home RN was all good.  I will admit to having recently completed a lifesized green tree snake (in a selfpatterning green mottled tencel yarn plus toning pale belly stripe) for a 4 year old boy who indicated he would prefer a pet snake to a new puppy.  No – there’s nothing wrong with my family.

One of our readers sent in a picture of  the finished article as requested by “ a dear friend”.  Now – she hails from Sweden, and her blog is in Swedish (and if you know a good online translator, fill yer boots!) but the thrust of her story is that her friend has some *specialised* interests, and runs a store that supplies that niche, and he requested a set of amigurumi to examplify such.

All I can say is that the discussions around how he wanted his special order to look would have been something not to walk in on, halfway through.

She informs me that whilst the resulting set is exactly what  he wanted,  her mother and grandmother have failed to see the cute in this:
